The Family of God

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.” -Mark 10:29-30

Jesus promises that anyone who has left behind anything to follow him (family, friends, material possessions, etc.) will receive a hundredfold family of God. Our hope is that we would not only find community at Eastside, but experience a good and better family. Rather than being a once-a-week meeting, we want groups to function as a family - the kind of family that meets together regularly around the Word and the dinner table; that holds each other to account and encourages one another; that shares in grief and celebration; that is there in the extraordinary and the everyday. Our desire is that the shared, shed blood of Christ would be a uniting bond that creates the kind of family God desires for us and the kind of family Jesus died to make a reality. Not only does this family minister to each other, but as believers, we have the opportunity to be the good and better family of God to a broken and hurting world.

Being in a group is one of the best ways to keep church small. Eastside is a church made up of many smaller groups of people committed to studying God's word, serving, and developing genuine community together.

We value practicing the “one-anothers” of the New Testament. We want to be quick to forgive and quick to confess, knowing and being known so that we might help one another become more like Christ, contributing to the needs of the saints and showing hospitality. One of the main ways we do much of this is through Eastside Groups.
